GetIntoLaw.com

Just in time for the great NASDAQ washout, my buddy Eric Guhring and I figured we should get in on the e-commerce bonanza. LISports.Net had already been a washout for me, but Eric has brought enough enthusiasm for the both of us. I think the result is a pretty good site that serves it's intended market well.
GetIntoLaw.com started the day after Y2K hit (1/2/00) and the world didn't melt. We got together for dinner and Eric pointed out that there isn't really a good site for law students. I pointed out that the standard affiliate agreement for online partnerships, upwards of 10%, is about what you could expect in profit margin from any business. Hence, a site was born.

It has morphed into more than just an advice column. It now features an online database search and a complete checklist for students to fill out and keep track of their search for a school. I programmed the whole thing using Allaire Cold Fusion running off of a Microsoft Access database. The few design incarnations we went through before settling on the current version were almost completely done while sitting on the Long Island Rail Road (which many of you know, Tracey and I do quite a bit of). Special thanks to Tracey's dad Thom for my birthday present last year -- a G3 laptop which made it all possible.

For all you venture capitalists out there, the site is available for US$4 million. Until we cash in big time, we're hoping that the affiliate agreements we have with sites such as Amazon and NextCard will start paying for the server space in a few months. The next step? A big PR blitz to target the senior class of 2001 entering college this fall.

*Postscript: After Eric and I each had sunk over a thousand dollars into the site and it returned less than $50, the plug was pulled. I'm proud to say that I am the executive behind not one, but two internet failures. Yeah for me.
